Child Pedestrian Accidents

The Child Accident Prevention Trust has issued figures which reveal that pedestrian injury is the leading cause of death of children in Great Britain.

In 2007, the number of injuries to children in England and Wales were as follows:

Slight injuries: 6,933

Serious injuries: 1,662

Fatal injuries: 53

Total: 8,648

 

Of course, children are at risk of an accident wherever they venture but statistics show that most accidents involving child pedestrians are close to the child’s home.  Whilst schools and parents take time to educate children in relation to road safety, accidents are at times unavoidable.
